We seem to live in a culture that glorifies the victim status. Everyone is looking for someone or something to blame for their problems & Mercury retrograde is no exception. I’ll be the first to admit I too am at fault of blaming everything on a retrograde.
Every time Mercury retrograde comes around everyone goes all “hide your kids, hide your wife” when really all we end up doing is giving the stars and planets more power than they deserve. In case you didn’t know Mercury retrogrades are the times when it appears to us on earth that Mercury is moving backwards (I only learned this in December). In Roman mythology, Mercury is the god of communication but he is also the trickster. More than likely when ancient people had nothing to do but watch the stars go by they might have noticed that communication often went haywire during this time and because I’m one of those, “if it looks like a fish and smells like a fish” sort of people I’m willing to believe there is some truth to it, but that doesn’t mean that we have to play victim to it.
Mercury retrogrades are definitely a good time for reflection. For me, the serenity prayer comes to mind -“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference.”
Over the next 3 weeks don’t give mercury more power than it deserves. If you can’t get paid on time because all the systems are down in the next few weeks maybe mercury had something to do with that but a fight with your boyfriend you should probably take some ownership for. Keep Calm Mercury is in retrograde again!
Love & light,
Erica xx
